LINEA: From Outline to Action The Art of the Line from Antiquity to the Present (group exhibition)
November 21, 2010 through March 27, 2011
Opening reception and book vernissage
Saturday, 20 November | 5.15 pm | Burgbachsaal
The spectrum of this exhibition from antiquity to the present is a deliberately wide one, extending from Pliny, Dürer and Pontormo to Edgar Degas, Egon Schiele and Joan Miró, and up to the present with Richard Tuttle und Roman Signer. Representative works will also provide insight into the interdisciplinary relationships between the visual arts and architecture, music and literature.
The line may be nothing more than a simple, fundamental element of the visual arts, but it has proven to be extremely diverse and complex in the course of art’s development. Neither visible nor tangible, it represents a concept of the visible world and is a product of human thought. The line has been formulated as nothing less than a changing conception of the world.
