88:18 – the first year

In celebration of the gallery’s 30th anniversary, Victor Gisler will present a special exhibition across the recently introduced new gallery spaces featuring significant works from the gallery’s first exhibition program in the founding year of 1988.

Alongside a few more recent works most of the artworks are from the early 80s and were part of the gallery exhibitions in 1988. The exhibition „88:18 – the first year“ brings together works by Les Levine, Robert Mapplethorpe, Thomas Ruff, Ian Anüll, Lawrence Weiner and Matt Mullican, artists who have shaped the gallery’s program since Mai 36 opened its doors.
