Mai 36 Galerie is delighted to announce its participation in Art Basel’s first iteration of Online Viewing Rooms. To access Online Viewing Rooms use your Art Basel account or create an Art Basel user profile.

In addition we have set up KAIROS, a viewing room in Taipei. As Art Basel Hong Kong was canceled due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, we decided to initiate this project as a way of still offering physical viewings. We cordially invite you to join us for the first exhibition of Mai 36 Galerie in Taiwan.

The ancient Greeks had two words for time: chronos and kairos. The former refers to chronological or sequential time, while the latter signifies a proper or opportune time for action. For example, in archery, kairos denotes the moment in which an arrow may be fired with sufficient force to penetrate a target.

In a time of crisis like ours today, many things that human beings rely on in order to have sense of security of survival, are failing due to the vulnerability and limitation of the human systems. However, as the old is fading, the new models and systems seem to emerge swiftly as well.

Could it be a "kairos" moment now? Can we see the opportune time as opportunities to transform and leap in development? As we are standing again at the crossroad of crisis, would we be wise enough to choose the right path, at this opening of time, and eventually, becoming something we have always hoped to?

This exhibition is an experimental attempt of Mai 36 Galerie. Art Basel HK was canceled due to the current corona virus situation. And the cancelation of it led to the online version of the art fair. In response to the online viewing room of Art Basel HK, we decided to set up a pop-up viewing room in Taipei. From an actual art fair to its virtual version and to an actual viewing room, we can see the transitional season of the art business model. However, in the midst of the transformation, we believe that the connection among people, between people and art, is still and always will be the core value of art and its business.

We cordially invite you to join us for the first exhibition of MAI 36 Galerie in Taiwan. Let's celebrate this "Kairos" moment and enjoy what art can possibly bring together.
